No Language Boundary. No Cultural Difference. No Flat Screen. No Video on Macbook.
It's CURVED 5:30pm - 8:30pm / 27 June 2016 (Monday) 360 Gallery. School of Creative Media. Kowloon Tong. 360 Gallery / Developed by Jeffrey Shaw. CURVED / Major Coordinated by David Jhave Johnston. 2D Animation. Promotion. Assorted Translation / June Chu. Feel amazing to be involved, as one of the contributor to in this amazing project. CURVED is a project, first developed by David Jhave Johnston, later other artists and poets like Collier Nogues. The idea is to erase the gap between cultural differences and language boundaries. More fantastic is all video will be shown on CURVED screen with 3D stereoscopic projector and surrounded sound. If showcase artwork needs money, then probably I won't have the chance, I am broke. But I wont let money, living, those financial problem suppresses my amazing idea. Since I am honoured to be involve in Jhave, Collier and Mei Kwan's Project, they are really nice, and allow me to experiment my idea when I animatic the text. The progress of working is reflective, that's why I got a plan to make a project, which is about 'Writing & Hair'. I love automatic writing, it is a great strategy to release your unconscious mind; while hair is a part of our body, which is born naturally. Theme? Identity? Cultural Differences? Name? Chinese? English? Meaning? Surface? Deeply?
Style? Personal? Commercial? Name -> Life? Feminist? Woman Art? Medium? Natural? Organic? Artificial? Human Hair? Animal Hair? Mine? Linger? Final Product? Photography? Real Object? Organic? Erase? Show? Online platform? Real exhibition? Promotion? Friend? Online? Business Card? Photography? Competition? Seeking for other name? Research? Stefan Sagmeister? Santiago Sierra? Maria Abramovic? Ai Mei Mei? Pheobe Man? Interactivity? Communication? Experimentation? Improvisation? Another great motto from William Shakespeare. Love this motto, it's simple, but inspiring. Sometime, you got to be alone, cool down, with a piece of paper, you can write/draw whatever you want. Sort of the ideology of automatism, lets your subconscious mind to express, suppress those common sense, or logical thinking. You brain could be evolved! Oh. Time to work!
oh! I lost all my hair, no, not really. Actually, I'm cutting myself, no, I haircut myself, and gave my gorgeous hair a homemade treatment, which is definelty free and organic.
Time to move on, it is pointless to keep long, heavy and messy hair, why didn't I cut it earlier? Don't know, no one know, just do whatever I wanna. It's time to relieve and keep going. I have to been searching countless ways to escape from Hong Kong, where I born, likes artist residence, working holiday, exchange. Hong Kong is not a really really a 'worse' place, but high rent is true. Tt's sometime international, sometime mainlandation. Yet, sort of cultural collision, also invasion. I love and hate this place.
Conflict? Definitely Yes! There is nothing wrong to see how large the world is, right? Hong Kong People. Anyone can tell me the best way to travel around the world. Sometime, I got really jealous, when I am scrolling the Facebook, see those 'friend' are sharing how fabulous their European trip, not saying 'share' is not a good manner, but if Facebook serves as a mean to 'show off', I dont think it is a good usage of Facebook. Shouldn't Facebook as a platform to let people to share their own life, how special and unique each person. What's the point to gain 'like', unless you are artist (actor, actress). It's actually meaningless to gain satisfaction and happiness on Facebook. It's totally silly, even though I am using Facebook.
I believe, Facebook is a mean to show how special you are. You could live without it! Tsumg Tsin Chrsitian Academy, where I studied at, during high school. Yet, time flies, people's appearances change everyday, but we seldom be patience to notice. CHANGE is never changeDont have a better motto, not sure how to say, '只有變是不變' in a more poetic and pervasive way. People is learnt to change, there is no alternative.
I whatsapp my really good advisor today, I asked one question, 'I wanna completed my animation, but I don't have time.' Usual people and friend probably say, no worry, I believe you can work it out, but my advisor is funny. 'Haha. Solution is no sleep!' No sleep? Is it really necessary? When I have time for meditation. I always think...what's solution?why always not enough time? why so many works to do? Why I'm broke? Why I have to do this, that and that? Everyone wants to be good, but not many are prepared to make the sacrifices it takes to be great.Am I going to sacrifices? Honestly, I am not sure, I wish to success, and know have to sacrifice. The only thing I can make sure is - I'm preparing to make the sacrifices! I don't have any excuse to rest, because I really want my animation done, and submit it to countless international competition.
'To be, or not to be. That's the question.' It's classic and popular, people used to quote it for everything, likes 'to work, or not to work', 'to quit, or not to quit' and 'to be teacher, or not to be'. Yet, there are many interpretation, elaboration for Shakespeare's quote. For me, the only matter thing is 'to be a better person, or not to be. That's the question.' People are used to ignore the second line, 'that's the question,' which is absolutely critical and reflective. When you are theoretically compare or contrast a subject, making a decision, the best way is considering both pros and cons, it kinda likes Liberal Studies 101, but it is childlike to memories, but super hard to practice casually. Never stop making new mistakesThat's also another important thing I learnt and experienced during the University life, you keep experimenting, making new mistakes, solving it, keep going!!!
